Hyderabad: Indian captain Rohit Sharma wants to give more batting time to wicket-keeper batsman Rohit Sharma ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia next month. India is choosing between Karthik and Rishabh Pant in the playing XI. Pant was picked in the Asia Cup while Karthik was dropped in all three matches against Australia.
After defeating Australia in the three-match series, Rohit said in the press conference, “I want to give these two players as many opportunities as possible before the World Cup. There was every possibility of both of them playing all the matches in the Asia Cup. “But I think Dinesh needs to be given more time. He didn’t get to play much in this series. Maybe three balls. it’s not much.”
Karthik played a total of seven balls against Australia while Pant played one match but did not get a chance to bat. Rohit said, “Pant also needs time but it was important to maintain consistency in the batting order in this series.” The Indian team will now play the T20 series against South Africa and Rohit said that the inclusion of Karthik and Pant together in the playing XI will depend on the situation.
“I don’t know what will happen against South Africa. We have to look at his bowling. We want to have flexibility in batting. If the situation requires a left-handed batsman, we will do that and if a right-handed batsman is needed, we will do that. One has to be very careful about the management of all these.” (agency)
