    IND W vs WI W | Mandhana, Harmanpreet’s half-centuries helped India beat West Indies

    East London (South Africa): With the help of unbeaten half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated West Indies by 56 runs in the first match of the T20 series. The Indian team, which won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 167 runs for two wickets in 20 overs. In response, the West Indies team could only manage 111 runs for four wickets.

    Opener Yastika Bhatia and Mandhana shared a 33-run partnership for India. Bhatia was dismissed on 18 by off-spinner Karishma Ramharak. She returned by giving a catch to wicketkeeper Rashada Williams in an attempt to play a high shot. Harleen Deol could not last long and was lbw to fast bowler Shanika Bruce. Mandhana and Harmanpreet handled the innings after two wickets fell for 52 runs.

    Harmanpreet, who was out in the first match due to ill health, scored 51 runs in 35 balls with the help of eight fours. Mandhana scored 74 runs in 51 balls. Both of them took the team to a good score by standing at the crease for about 12 overs. Mandhana hit ten fours and a six in her innings.

    In bowling, spinner Radha Yadav took the wicket of Shemaine Campbell (47) for just ten runs in four overs. West Indies’ score was 96 for four when only 15 balls were left. Deepti Sharma took two wickets for 24 runs. (agency)
