A FATHER and his child died on the spot and 14 others were seriously injured when a 10-wheeler truck lost control of its brakes and rammed several vehicles in Tupi town, South Cotabato, on Friday.
Police investigators identified the fatalities as Diamalodin Makasaehe, 28, and his son Janaiden, 4.
The father and son were riding a motorcycle along with Hasnia Makasaehe, a relative who also sustained injuries, when the accident happened along the national highway near the South East Asian Institute of Technology (Seait).
The 14 commuters, including Seait students, were also hurt when the wayward truck plowed into at least 14 vehicles along a busy highway.
The driver fled after the incident.
The 10-wheeler truck, which came from General Santos City heading to Koronadal City, appeared to have lost its brakes when it reached the descending portion of the highway past 6 am on Friday. It also smashed the roadside metal railings and fell into a sloping portion along the side of the highway.
According to the report, the truck hit three sports utility vehicles, three pick-up trucks, a Yellow Bus unit, a tricycle, five motorcycles and a cargo truck.
Police authorities are still trying to track the identity of the driver at press time.
