Mumbai. Social media influencer Sapna Gill, who was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw for taking a selfie, on Friday claimed in a court here that it was actually Shaw who attacked her. She said Shaw apologized to her and requested her not to file a police complaint.
Gill, who was arrested on Thursday, was produced in the court on Friday. The court sent him to police custody till February 20. The incident between the two parties took place when Shaw refused to take selfie with Gill outside a luxury hotel in suburban Santacruz on Wednesday.
During the custody hearing, Gill requested that he be allowed to present his version of the incident, which was accepted by the magistrate. Gill said that all the allegations leveled against him are false. He said, “He (Shaw) hit me on the chest and arm.”
He said, “We were there just to seek help from the police. They were eight to ten people and we were just two people. She claimed that Shaw and his friends requested her not to file a police complaint and also said ‘sorry’.

Regarding the claim that the incident occurred when she requested a selfie with Shaw, Gill said, “I don’t know him, nor have I ever seen him. I never asked him to click a selfie.”
He also denied the allegation that he demanded Rs 50,000 to hush up the matter. Gill claimed, “He was totally intoxicated. He was in front of the police station. He could have lodged the FIR then, but he was inebriated so he thought of doing it later.”
According to Gill, before Shaw arrived, he and his friends were partying in the VIP lounge of the hotel. The incident took place when Shaw had gone to the hotel for dinner with a businessman friend. (agency)
