digital desk,Chandigarh. Punjabi cine star, director and producer Mangal Dhillon, who was battling cancer, passed away at a hospital in Ludhiana on Sunday, just a week before his birthday. He was 48 years old.
Hailing from Faridkot in Punjab, Dhillon had made his mark in the world of films and serials. He worked in Doordarshan and Radio Play for a few years besides giving commercial voiceovers in New Delhi and Mumbai.
In 1987, he got the role of Lubhya Ram in Ramesh Sippy’s TV serial Buniyaad. After Buniyaad, he worked in around 25-30 Hindi feature films and television serials. Yugandhar, Laxman Rekha, Nishana, Vishwatma, Khoon Bhari Maang and Azad Desh Ke Ghulam are prominent among them. He also did serials like Junoon, Panther, Ghutan, Kismat and Noorjahan.
Saddened by Dhillon’s death, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal said it was a great loss to the world of Indian cinema. His mesmerizing voice and dramatic performances will be missed by many, he tweeted. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and fans.
