Auckland: New Zealand Cricket (NZC) selector Gavin Larsen expects fast bowler Trent Boult to lead the team’s bowling attack in the ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year. Last year, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to release Boult from his central contract as he wanted to make himself available for T20 leagues around the world.
He is currently playing for MI Emirates in the UAE International League T20. Although the 33-year-old has expressed his desire to participate in ICC (International Cricket Council) events, his participation in the tournament is yet to be confirmed.

“The door is open for Bolt,” Larsen told ‘SENZ Mornings’. He told that Bolt is in touch with the team’s head coach Gary Stead and both are in constant conversation. He said, “Gary and Trent talk regularly. We all know about Bolt’s ability and his experience. He has been a match-winner for us over the years.”
Left-arm bowler Boult has the ability to swing the ball both ways at high speed. This ability makes him one of the most dangerous bowlers in every format of the game. “We want him to be involved (in World Cup planning), we fully understand his position so we will continue to work with him,” said Larsen, a former player who played eight Tests and 121 ODIs for New Zealand. “
In the absence of Boult and the experienced Tim Southee, the relatively inexperienced New Zealand pace attack struggled in the recently concluded white-ball series in India. The team lost 0-3 in the ODI series and 1-2 in the T20I series. New Zealand have reached back-to-back World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019 but are yet to win the tournament. (agency)
