Kashmir gets its first multiplex

Srinagar Kashmir’s first multiplex is all set for a special screening of Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha at the new INOX Multiplex. This is the first time that people in the Valley will get a chance to enjoy Bollywood movies on the big screen after a long time. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the multiplex designed by INOX. The scheduled inauguration of the INOX-run multiplex will come at a time when Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated a multipurpose cinema hall each in Pulwama and Shopian districts on Sunday.

Film Vikram Vedha will be the first release

Kashmir’s first multiplex is going to open in Srinagar on September 20. The first show in this will be on September 30 when Hrithik Roshan’s film Vikram will be screened at the Vedha multiplex. People will get the same facilities in cinema which they get in Delhi-Mumbai or other cities of the country. This multiplex has three screens and a seating capacity of about 520 people.

The return of cinema in the valley after three decades
It is known that cinema halls were closed in the valley in the early 90s after the roots of terrorism in the Kashmir region were deep. There were about 15 cinema halls in Kashmir at that time, of which nine were in Srinagar, but all of them were forcibly closed by terrorists decades ago. Although the government tried to reopen some cinema halls during 1999-2000, the subsequent terrorist attacks forced them to close the cinema halls. Now after a long gap of thirty years, cinema has returned to the Kashmir Valley.

What did multiplex owner Vijay Dhar say?
During a conversation with India TV, multiplex owner Vijay Dhar said that Bollywood and Kashmir have always had a special relationship. It was the first choice for holidays for Dilip Kumar and many other big stars. Dhar said that the idea came from my parents and we thought that no one is talking about entertainment options for the youth, and we decided that cinema is something that has a long association with Kashmir. And this is something that we should bring to the Valley. He said that the government has fully supported us in making this multiplex better. He said that this multiplex is fully equipped with all security equipments. We welcome our people and promise to provide them all facilities. Vijay Dhar said that all this work has not been done with the intention of business ideology.
