Jhulan Goswami Retirement | BCCI said on Jhulan Goswami’s retirement, an era has ended

New Delhi: Terming Jhulan Goswami’s two-decade-long international career as ‘memorable’, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday said that an era ended with the retirement of one of the all-time greats of women’s cricket. Done. Jhulan (39 years) had retired from international cricket after the ODI series against England ended. The Indian team gave a grand farewell to this legendary fast bowler by doing a clean sweep in this series.

Jhulan made his debut for India in 2002. He played 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20 Internationals in his career. In all these together he took 355 wickets. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said in a release issued here, “An era comes to an end with Jhulan announcing his retirement from international cricket. He represented India with great pride and always gave his best. He served Indian cricket with utmost excellence.”

“She was the leader of the Indian bowling attack and her achievements will continue to inspire current and future cricketers. His contribution to the game was memorable. While his inspiring presence on the field will be sorely missed, his achievements will continue to inspire future cricketers.” Jhulan has featured in five ODI World Cups (2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022) in her career and is the highest wicket-taker in the Women’s World Cup. She is the only fast bowler to take more than 250 ODI wickets in women’s cricket.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “Jhulan Goswami is one of the greatest players of all time to have played the game. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal also recalled Jhulan’s contribution to cricket, taking two wickets for 30 runs in his farewell match. Dhumal said, “Jhulan and Mithali Raj were instrumental in taking forward women’s cricket in India. Jhulan has never shied away from putting in the extra effort, be it on-field performance or the preparations made to excel. His stupendous achievements and unmatched contribution to our sport will continue to inspire his teammates and future cricketers.” (agency)
