New Delhi : Legendary wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist believes that Australia all-rounder Cameron Green can land as a batsman in the first Test against India starting on Thursday. The 23-year-old Green is now on his way back to fitness after undergoing surgery on his right finger. He broke his finger during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in December.

Australia’s coach Andrew McDonald has already said that Green will not be able to bowl at the moment. Gilchrist told ‘Sen Radio’, “I think the selectors will field him at number six provided he is fully fit and the finger injury does not affect him.” He said, “This team has a lot of faith in each other and is ready to support each other in any situation.”

Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will also miss the first Test due to injuries. Scott Boland may get a chance if Green doesn’t bowl. Gilchrist said, “If Boland plays, it will be great for the team. He is a very aggressive and accurate bowler. He said, “Starc not being able to play is a big blow but even in the Indian team, there is no Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah.” The competition will be equal. (agency)
