IKEA Layoffs: During Corona, many people lost their lives and many lost their jobs. Similarly, now the war going on between Russia and Ukraine has started affecting the jobs of the people. A similar setback has been dealt to its workers by the Swedish furniture company IKEA. However, IKEA on Thursday reported a six percent increase in sales for the full year. But the company has described it as a “challenging” year due to inflation and withdrawal of operations from Russia.
With the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the company, which halted retail operations in Russia, had to say goodbye to about 10,000 of its 12,000 employees in Russia. Ikea company is a very famous company internationally. After the Russo-Ukraine war, Ikea closed 17 of its shops and ceased production in the country. The company was one of the largest Western companies before the war with 15,000 employees.
The impact of the war on marketing
Jesper Brodin, CEO of Ingka, which oversees the management of Ikea’s stores, has said that out of 12,000 retail employees at Ikea’s Russian stores, about 10,000 employees have had to say goodbye. According to media reports, due to continuous attacks by Russia, electricity supply has come to a standstill in many cities of Ukraine. This war has had a huge impact on marketing. Due to which 10,000 employees have lost their jobs in a company like IKEA. Ikea has been present in Russia for the last 22 years i.e. from the year 2000. Where more than 15,000 employees worked.
