Uttarakhand’s first Signature Bridge has collapsed for the second time before it was built. However, this time there was no one around the bridge at the time of the accident and there is no news of anyone being injured. Earlier in July 2022, two workers were killed when the shuttering of this bridge collapsed. The construction work of the Signature Bridge being built at Narkota on the Badrinath Highway in Rudraprayag district is being done by RCC Company. This bridge is being built at a cost of more than Rs 76 crore. More than 40 workers work in it daily.
Under the All Weather Road Project, the upper frame of the 110 meter span Signature Bridge was being constructed at Narkota on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway. On Thursday at 5 pm, the tower of the bridge towards Rudraprayag collapsed, due to which the frame also collapsed. It is believed that the tower fell due to excess weight and the frame also collapsed. People have demanded action against the company constructing the bridge.
The bridge is important for the Char Dham Yatra
This bridge is important for the Char Dham Yatra. The proposed length of this bridge is 110 meters and height 40 meters. However, the alignment of the part of the bridge that has fallen was changed some time ago. Concerns were already expressed about the place where this bridge is being built. The villagers said that the soil where the bridge is being built can collapse anytime. Protests were also held in front of the officials regarding this matter, but it was not taken seriously. Construction of this bridge will save a lot of time, but there is a lot of difficulty in completing its construction.
