Expansion
The ozone layer is also getting damaged from the cities along the Ganges. This fact has come to the fore in the initial phase of ongoing research at Kedareshwar Banerjee Center for Atmospheric and Marine Sciences of Allahabad University (IVV).
india : The Center’s Associate Professor Dr. Shailendra Rai and his research scholar Vikram Singh are researching what is the effect of the rapidly increasing environmental pollution in the Indo-Gangetic Plain i.e. along the banks of the Ganges, on the ozone layer. In the initial phase of research, it has been found that in these areas, the responsibility for environmental pollution is the emission of factors like carbon dioxide, particulate matter (PM) – 2.5, chlorofluorocarbons, which is causing damage to the ozone layer. .
The areas around the Ganges river are considered to be the most prosperous in terms of production. Because of this, the population in these areas has increased rapidly. The number of vehicles is continuously increasing. The use of refrigerators, ACs etc. is also increasing rapidly and the increasing environmental pollution is rapidly damaging the ozone layer. Dr. Shailendra Rai told that proper steps need to be taken for its prevention. Research is also being done in this direction as to what measures should be taken to prevent it.
what is azon layer
The ozone layer is found in the stratosphere. This layer is two to five millimeters thick and surrounds the earth. Because of this, ultraviolet rays cannot reach the earth. When ultraviolet rays break one into two molecules of oxygen and it combines with the other oxygen to form the third molecule, then it forms the ozone layer.
Ultraviolet rays are the cause of skin diseases
Somewhere in the South and North poles, the ozone layer is getting depleted. Holes have been found in it and ultraviolet rays are reaching the earth. These rays give rise to skin diseases. It also increases the risk of skin cancer.
Ozone layer is being damaged due to these reasons
The graph of damage to the ozone layer has increased rapidly in recent years due to nitrogen oxides such as chlorofluorocarbons, components of nitrogen released from refrigerators and ACs. Of. Dr. Shailendra Rai of Banerjee Center for Atmospheric and Marine Science says that new technology is also being used in the manufacture of refrigerators and ACs, due to which their participation in pollution has reduced. Similarly, other ways will also have to be found to save the ozone layer.
