Students from rural areas to study in the city
Concession is given by the Railways for students coming from far-flung rural areas to study in the cities. Railways allow girls to travel free of cost in second class on MST (Monthly Season Tickets) till graduation. Such students who usually use MST can now avail this facility free of cost up to a distance of 150 kms. Under this scheme of Railways, boys till Inter while girls till graduation will get the benefit of this service.
MST stands for Monthly Season Ticket, a pass purchased for your daily to and fro travel on a monthly, quarterly or half-yearly basis and of course if calculated you will pay less than the actual daily fare.

Children studying in government schools in villages get 75 per cent concession in second class train tickets for a study tour once a year.
Research students, Camp students
Indian Railways Research Scholars up to 35 years of age get 50% concession on rail travel for research related work. This discount is available for traveling in second and sleeper class. And students or non-students going to work camp get 25% discount on second and sleeper class train tickets.
Going to appear for written tests for government jobs and entrance exams
Girls studying in government schools in rural areas get 75% concession on train tickets for entrance exams for medical, engineering etc. It is used for second class travel.
Exemption for students appearing in UPSC Mains exam
On the other hand, students appearing for the main written examination conducted by UPSC and Central Staff Selection Commissions get 50% concession in rail fare. This is applicable for travel from second class onwards.
Marine Engineers Apprentice
Cadets of Mercantile Marine undergoing navigational or engineering training and Marine Engineer Apprentices get 50% concession on railway second class and sleeper class tickets. This exemption is available to them for traveling from home to the training ship for the purpose of commuting.
