While Pakistan’s exit is certain, India’s match against Bangladesh has become very important. South Africa are set to reach the semi-finals after a comfortable five-wicket win against India. Currently, South Africa is at the top of the points table. They have 5 points after winning 3 matches. Whereas India and Bangladesh have 4 points each. India is at number two on the basis of better average. Now India will have to register a win against Bangladesh on November 2. If there is defeat there, all hopes will be dashed.
Can Pakistan still reach the semi-finals?
If Pakistan beats South Africa on November 3 and Bangladesh on November 6, they will have six points. Right now it is difficult to say whether six points will be enough for Pakistan to reach the semi-finals. Sunday’s win for South Africa means that even if they face a loss against Pakistan, their road to the semi-finals will not be difficult. It is also important for Pakistan that India now face defeat in either of their last two matches against Bangladesh (November 2) and Zimbabwe (November 6). Bangladesh also have a chance, but a big defeat against South Africa can be costly.
