Indore. India head coach Rahul Dravid on Tuesday admitted that Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the upcoming T20 World Cup due to a back injury would be a big loss for the Indian team. He, however, added that it would be an opportunity for another player to perform. The Indian cricket board on Monday announced that pacer Bumrah will miss the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia, in a setback to the Indian team which is facing problems with bowling in the death overs.

Dravid said after India’s 49-run loss in the third and final T20 against South Africa, “Bumrah’s absence is a big loss. He is a legend but it happens, this is an opportunity for someone else. We will miss him and his personality around the team.”

“It was nice to have the right results (India won both the series 2-1) in both the series (against South Africa and Australia). You need luck in this format, especially in close matches. We didn’t have that in the Asia Cup, but luck came against Australia.”

Talking about the team’s new aggressive batting approach, Dravid said, “We decided after the last T20 World Cup, made a conscious effort to sit down with Rohit and be positive.”

“We have the batting to play positively. We had to build our team with batting depth and we are happy with the way we have come together.” India had rested Virat Kohli and KL Rahul after winning the series before Tuesday’s match. Rishabh Pant opened the innings and Dinesh Karthik was sent at number four to give him more time at the crease.

Dravid said, “Today was the time to give chances to those who have not batted much. It is difficult for people like Rishabh, Dinesh. I wish both had continued, they were batting brilliantly.” “Four-five overs and if they had played, it could have been very close,” he said. (agency)
