Karachi. Aggressive batsman Fakhar Zaman was on Friday named in Pakistan’s main squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in place of injured leg-spinner Usman Qadir. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Zaman, who is a reserve player, will be included in the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup. Qadir has failed to recover from a fractured thumb. He will now be in the list of reserve players of the team.
According to a statement issued by the PCB, “This change was necessary as Usman Qadir has not recovered from a hairline fracture of the right thumb. He suffered this injury during the September 25 T20 International against England in Karachi. This leg-spinner will not be available for selection before October 22.”
The PCB said Zaman will arrive in Brisbane from London along with Shaheen Shah Afridi on Saturday and will be available for selection for two warm-up matches against England (October 17) and Afghanistan (October 19). During this, the team management will assess the fitness of this left-handed batsman. Zaman was ruled out of the recently played home T20 International series against England after he injured his knee while fielding in the Asia Cup final in Dubai.
