T20 World Cup 2022: Ireland defeated West Indies by 9 wickets in the match, making the biggest upset of the T20 World Cup 2022. With this, the two-time champion team West Indies has been out of the T20 World Cup 2022. Ireland has become the third team after Sri Lanka and the Netherlands to make it to the Super-12. The final and 12th team of the tournament will be decided by the Scotland vs Zimbabwe match, which has already started.
West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to bat first. Due to the brilliant bowling of Ireland, West Indies could only manage 146 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Brendan King played an unbeaten innings of 62 runs in 48 balls with the help of 6 fours and 1 six. While bowling brilliantly for Ireland, Gareth Delany took three wickets for just 16 runs in the quota of 4 overs. It included the big wickets of captain Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell and Evin Lewis.
Chasing the target of 147 runs, Ireland’s team opener Paul Stirling and captain Andrew Balbirnie (37) gave a good start and added 73 runs for the first wicket in 7.3 overs. In front of Ireland, the bowling of the Windies looked completely lackluster. After the dismissal of Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker came to bat till the end and Ireland won the match by 9 wickets. Lorcan Tucker scored an unbeaten 45 off 35 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes, while Sterling played an unbeaten half-century of 66 runs. Sterling faced 48 balls in this innings and hit 6 fours and 2 sixes. Ireland won the match with 15 balls to spare.
