The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Rajasthan government to pay compensation to the children orphaned by Corona within two weeks. A bench of Justices MR Shah and Sudhanshu Dhulia also ordered the state government to submit full details of the rejected applications for compensation before the State Legal Services Authority within two weeks.
The apex court has asked the Legal Services Authority to consider the applications concerned and take an appropriate decision within four weeks. In the last hearing, the top court had reprimanded the Rajasthan government, saying that it was not doing any favors by giving compensation to the corona victims. The Rajasthan government had told the apex court that it has given compensation to 191 children out of a total of 718 orphaned by Corona.
Compensation to 8047 in suicide deaths
The counsel for the state government told the Supreme Court that 9077 applications were received at the district level in cases of suicide deaths, out of which 8047 have been approved. 551 are pending and 479 have been rejected.
Government accused of disobeying the order of the Supreme Court
The top court is hearing a petition filed by advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal. In the petition, the Rajasthan government has been accused of not following the 2021 order of the Supreme Court regarding Kovid compensation. In this order, the top court had directed to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the dependents of the deceased in the case of deaths due to corona. Bansal had requested that the Supreme Court seek a status report from the state government in this regard.
