Perth: Australia cricketer Steve Smith on Thursday scored a hundred in the opening Test against the West Indies, equaling his country’s greatest cricketer Don Bradman’s 29 centuries. Smith was 114 at lunch as Australia cruised into the opening Test, courtesy a double century from Marnus Labuschagne (204), who was dismissed before lunch on the second day.
By the lunch break, Australia had scored 402 runs for three wickets. With Labushen’s dismissal, his and Smith’s 251-run partnership for the third wicket ended. Labushen got a lifeline on scores of 132 and 194.

Australia started playing at 293 for two when Labushen was playing on 154 and Smith was on 59. In his 88th Test match, Smith equaled Australia’s legendary batsman Bradman’s centuries. Only Ricky Ponting (41), Steve Waugh (32) and Matthew Hayden (30) have more centuries for Australia. (agency)
