Johannesburg: Malibongwe Maketa was on Wednesday appointed as the interim head coach of the South Africa cricket team. He will join the team for a three-Test tour of Australia next month. Maketa will replace Mark Boucher, who will step down after the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia.
Malibongwe Maketa is currently the coach of South Africa ‘A’ team. He is also the head of the National Academy. He has been a part of the coaching group of the senior team in the past as well. He was the assistant coach of the South African team from 2017 to 2019.

Maketa has been appointed only for the Tests in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in December and January. South Africa is expected to make a permanent appointment early next year.(agency)
