It is reported that in view of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, 2024, a decision will be taken from the BCCI regarding the captaincy of the T20I Team India. According to sources, Hardik Pandya can be made the captain of the T20I Indian team.
A BCCI source said that some tough decisions will have to be taken in this regard. This (T20 World Cup Semifinal) would be a bitter pill to swallow. But, we had prepared, sent the team to Australia soon. Yes, our planning was definitely affected due to the injuries of two particular players. But, that is the nature of the game. Look, England is also without Jofra Archer or Mark Wood. But, he did not fight like Team India in the field. As far as the captaincy is concerned, it is a matter of discussion. It will be discussed after the New Zealand series.
It is not that Rohit Sharma will be ousted from the captaincy due to the loss to England in the semi-final. Rather, their age is the main reason. Because, at this time he is 35 years old and by the ICC T20 World Cup, 2024 he will be 37 years old. In this sense, he will have the important job of leading the team in both ODI and Test formats for at least two years. Hence, he can be rested from the captaincy of T20I Team India.

A source associated with the BCCI said that Rohit Sharma was played continuously for big series and ICC tournaments and was also rested. But, a captain cannot be rotated repeatedly. In such a situation, he will not be in focus for T20I cricket. This is the reason that if a player like Hardik Pandya is found ready to take over fulltime responsibility, Rohit Sharma can be gradually relieved of this responsibility.
