    Dinkar, decorated with the title of Padma Vibhushan, was born on 23 September 1908 in Simaria (Bihar). He studied History, Philosophy and Political Science from Patna University. Along with this, he had studied Sanskrit, Bangla, English and Urdu deeply. Before independence, Ramdhari Singh was known as a rebel poet because his poems used to create revolutionary feelings among the youth. After getting independence, Dinkar got the title of national poet. From 1934 to 1947, he was the sub-registrar and deputy director of the Publicity Department in the Government of Bihar. He also worked as Vice Chancellor in Bhagalpur University. After that he also became Hindi advisor to the Government of India.     “Whenever politics falters, literature gives it strength”

    This incident happened when once a Kavi Sammelan was going to be held in the Red Fort. Prime Minister Nehru was also coming to attend that conference. Pandit Nehru and Dinkar were climbing the steps of the stage. Then suddenly Prime Minister Nehru’s leg wobbled and Dinkar held his hand and took care of him. After this he told Dinkar that “Thank you Dinkar ji, you have taken care of me.” What Dinkar said in response to this became history. Ramdhari Singh Dinkar said, “There is nothing to thank Nehru ji for, whenever politics falters, literature gives it strength.”

    Dinkar was angry after losing to China

    Dinkar composed a poetry book named ‘Parashuram ki Pratiksha’ after the defeat of China. In this, he criticized the wrong policies of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru through poetry. In it, he wrote at one place, “His, in whom compassion was infinite liquid, there was no youth-heat, nor was there a ranch girl, those who were bloated by getting cheap fame, were forgotten in impure fantasies.”

    In fact, in these lines, Dinkar made a scathing attack on the then Prime Minister and his foreign policy and defense policy. Everyone knows that due to the wrong defense policy, how Indian soldiers were fighting the war only in the absence of necessary goods for the war. His anger can be gauged from the fact that he had even called Prime Minister Nehru ‘fatal’ through poetry. According to him, “there is Fatal who looks god-like, but, gives wrong orders to the room.”

    Did not tolerate the insult of Hindi language

    On June 20, 1962, Rashtrakavi Dinkar was not in a good mood in the Parliament of the country. Rajya Sabha proceedings began. That day Dinkar stood in the Rajya Sabha and said about the insult of Hindi that whenever there is any talk about Hindi in the country, not only the leaders of the country but also the so-called intellectuals do not move forward without abusing the Hindi people. Don’t know who started this practice?

    Pointing to Prime Minister Nehru, he said that have you made Hindi the national language so that Hindi speakers can be abused everyday? All the people sitting in the meeting including Prime Minister Nehru were surprised to hear this. Continuing the point, Dinkar said that the Prime Minister never says anything about other languages, but he has not said anything good about Hindi till date.

    Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi had said about Dinkar that Dinkar ji was the most popular of all Hindi poets among non-Hindi speakers and was a symbol of those who loved their mother tongue. So there Harivansh Rai Bachchan had said that Dinkar ji should be given not one but four different Jnanpith awards for prose, poetry, language and Hindi service. Ramvriksha Benipuri had said that Dinkar ji had given voice to the revolutionary movement in the country. Along with this, Namvar Singh had said about Dinkar that Dinkar ji was really the sun of his era.
