At the same time, Ashwin further said a shocking thing. He said that if the ball did not go wide and hit his pad, he would have announced his retirement. During a conversation with Hrishikesh Kanitkar on BCCI.TV, Ashwin said, ‘If that ball from Nawaz hit my pad, I would do just one thing by coming into the dressing room, opening my Twitter and writing (laughs), ‘Thank you so much. It was a wonderful cricketing career and journey. And thank you.”
Virat Kohli also said after the match, ‘I told Ashwin that he can hit from over the covers, but Ash… he put extra mind on the mind. It was a very brave decision… the ball came in and went wide.
