Mumbai. A Mumbai court on Monday granted bail to Sapna Gill and three other accused in the case of allegedly manhandling Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and attacking his car with a baseball bat. Earlier in the day, the court sent Gill, his friend Shobhit Thakur and Rudra Solanki and Sahil Singh to judicial custody for 14 days. Thereafter, he filed a bail application before the court.

Metropolitan Magistrate (Andheri Court) C P Kashid granted bail to all the accused after hearing brief arguments. He was arrested last week.

In her plea, filed through Sapna Gill’s lawyer Kashif Ali Khan, Gill claimed that the FIR against them (the accused) has been registered on “completely false and fabricated allegations”.

“The statements in the FIR are fabricated and without any basis and the applicant (Gill) is being implicated in the aforesaid case,” the bail plea argued.

Advocate Kashif Ali Khan said, “The police sought 3 more days of custody, but the magistrate understood that there were many threads in this case. Therefore, the bail application of social media influencer Sapna Gill has been accepted. “A complaint under sections 354, 509, 351, 324, 323 and others will be filed against Prithvi Shaw today,” Khan said.

On the other hand, on behalf of the police, public prosecutor Atiya Shaikh opposed the bail pleas and said, “The investigation in this case is not yet complete. He argued that the accused had followed Shaw to “revenge” as he had refused to take a selfie with them.

He said, “They could have even taken the life of a 23-year-old cricketer. The incident took place last week outside a hotel in suburban Shantacruz after Shaw refused to take a selfie with Gill. (with agency inputs)
