Sydney: Captain Kane Williamson on Saturday said adopting a positive result-oriented approach enabled his team to register a win against arch-rivals Australia in a limited-overs match on their soil after 12 years on the same soil. New Zealand defeated defending champions Australia by 89 runs in the first match of the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup.
Batting first, New Zealand scored 200 for three and then bowled out Australia for 111. Devon Conway scored an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls for New Zealand. Williamson praised his batsmen. Williamson said after the match, “It was one of those days when we played an outstanding game. The opening pair created the momentum and everyone contributed well during the batting. It was a good score on this pitch.”

We played the game as we wanted.” Australia captain Aaron Finch said New Zealand beat him in every department of the game.
Finch said, “Their openers had set a good stage in the first four overs itself and we could not recover from it. We needed a good start but it didn’t happen. They beat us in every department of the game. We have to play the next match against Sri Lanka. We need to win in all four now.”
