Nitin Gadkari: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that despite India becoming the fifth largest economy in the world and being a prosperous country, its population is facing poverty, hunger, unemployment, casteism, untouchability and inflation. Gadkari, while attending an event in Nagpur, said that the gap between rich and poor is deepening within the country which needs to be bridged.

The Minister for Road Transport and Highways said, “We are the fastest growing economy in the world and the fifth largest economy. We are a rich country with a poor population. Our country is prosperous but its population is poor which is facing starvation, unemployment, inflation, casteism, untouchability and many other issues which are not good for the progress of the society.

The Union Minister said, “At this time there is a need for social and economic equality within the society. The gap between these two parts of the society has increased. Economic inequality has also increased like social inequality.” Emphasizing the need to work in areas like health and education, he said that in order to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, attention will have to be paid to other such areas as well. He also called for working together for the development of 124 aspirational districts of the country.
