St. John’s (Antigua): Nicholas Pooran recently decided to relinquish the captaincy of the limited overs team following West Indies’ dismal exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia. Two-time champions West Indies suffered defeats against Scotland and Ireland, while the team could only win against Zimbabwe.
Cricket West Indies is conducting an official review of the team’s failure to qualify for the Super 12 stage. Puran scored only 25 runs in 29 balls in three matches. Due to this the average of this wicketkeeper’s career fell to 25. “It is not that I am giving up,” Pooran said in a statement.

He said, “I am still ambitious and still believe that it is an honor to be given the captaincy of West Indies cricket. I am fully committed to West Indies cricket and will continue to serve in a supporting role as a senior player.” Pooran was officially appointed captain in May after Kieron Pollard decided to step down from the post.
