Late night criminals shot and killed former sarpanch Anand Rai (55) in Yajur Chainpur of Katra police station area of Muzaffarpur district. He was shot four times. After which the family reached SKMCH with him in an injured condition. He died in the course of treatment. After the incident, there was chaos in the victim’s family. Police reached the spot and investigated. Efforts are on to conduct post-mortem of the dead body. The son of the deceased, Uday Kumar, in the police interrogation, has accused the people of the neighborhood of carrying out the incident. Told that he was shot dead in a very old land dispute.

The son of the deceased, Uday, told that his father had gone to defecate on the roadside late at night. There were already about ten criminals ambushed there. Everyone was hiding. As soon as his father reached the road. Bullets started raining from all sides. When they reached the spot after hearing the voice, they saw that their father was lying unconscious on the road, covered in blood. There were also criminals around there. Who had a weapon in his hand. Seeing the people, they all ran away. During this, the family recognized the criminals. The names of others including Chandan Rai and Shatrughan Rai have been given before the police. The police also conducted raids. But after the incident, all are said to be absconding from the village.

Police investigation revealed that Anand Rai had gone to jail in the year 2016. He was sentenced to five years in the assault and murder case. Last year he had returned home after completing his sentence. After which he was doing farming in the village and feeding his family. His son says that there is a dispute going on with the neighbors over land since many decades ago. He was murdered in the same dispute.
