In the first match of the 3-match ODI series between India and New Zealand (India vs New Zealand ODI Series, 2023) played in Hyderabad (IND vs NZ 1st ODI Match Hyderabad), Team India opener Shubman Gill Double century hit. He touched the 200-run mark in just 145 balls and set the record for the most runs scored by India in a single match in the history of ODI cricket against New Zealand.
Significantly, in India’s first batting on Wednesday, January 18, opener Shubman Gill played a mammoth inning of 208 runs in 149 balls with the help of 19 fours and 9 sixes. Gill broke Ishan Kishan’s record of being the youngest to score a double century in the history of ODI cricket and set a new precedent in his name.

Shubman Gill also touched the 1000-run mark in his One Day International cricket career with his brilliant inning of 208 runs against New Zealand. He also became the fastest Indian player to score 1000 runs in the history of ODI cricket. Before him, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan had scored 1000 runs in 24-24 innings in their One Day International cricket career. Whereas, Gill became ‘Hazari’ in the 19th inning itself.
However, India, batting first in this match, scored 349 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and gave New Zealand a target of 350 runs to win.
