    Himachal Election 2022: Bumper voting in Himachal, around 75 percent voter turnout amidst sporadic incidents

    In Himachal Pradesh, the future of 412 candidates of 68 assembly constituencies was imprisoned in EVMs on Saturday. Voters reached the polling stations early in the morning to make sacrifices in this great sacrifice of democracy in the state. Bumper voting was witnessed in this election amid sporadic incidents and the turnout reached around 74.61 percent, though it was less than the last election. The counting of votes cast through ballot paper is yet to take place. Hence the vote percentage will reach more than 75 per cent. Voting continued in many booths even after 5 o’clock. Polling continued till late in 86 booths in Solan, 40 in Kullu, 35 in Mandi, 26 in Una and five in Hamirpur. However, polling continued till late night at some places due to EVM malfunction and other reasons. Voting took place till 10:37 pm in Dharoli of Nalagarh. So the vote percentage is likely to increase.

    The highest turnout was 85.20 percent in Doon assembly constituency, while the lowest was 57 percent in Kasumpti. Sirmaur district topped in voting, where 78.00 percent polling was recorded and lowest voter turnout was 71.18 percent in Hamirpur district. Voting continued from 8 am to late evening in 7,881 polling stations in the state. The weather remained clear in the state amid polling, while the temperature remained below zero in snow-clad areas. Voters came to cast their votes even when the temperature was below zero in these areas. Defects of EVMs were also reported at many places in the state, due to which the election was disrupted for some time.

    This interesting battle has taken place among 412 candidates including BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M), BSP and independents in the electoral riots. Of these, 388 are male and 24 are female candidates. Out of 55,92,828 voters in the state, 28,54,945 males, 27,37,845 females and 38 third genders have been included in the electoral rolls. For the first time, voters above the age of 80 and differently-abled have been given the facility to cast their votes from their homes. Despite this, many elderly and differently-abled people reached the polling stations and cast their votes. For voting, 142 booths were handed over to women and 37 disabled personnel. 136 Adarsh ​​polling booths were also set up across the state. There were 378 very sensitive and 903 sensitive polling stations.

    Tshigang, the highest polling station in the world, located at an altitude of 15256 feet above sea level, where the maximum temperature on Saturday was minus 6 degrees Celsius, but despite this, a total of 52 voters, including 30 men and 22 women, came dressed in traditional costumes. Voters cast 100% vote for the assembly elections. This polling station in Lahaul-Spiti district had voted for the first time in 2019 for the Lok Sabha elections, even then 100 percent votes were cast here.
