The Jharsuguda Assembly seat in Odisha fell vacant following the assassination of former Minister and MLA Late Nab Kishore Das. From this seat Biju Janata Dal gave ticket to his daughter Dipali Das and she won the election.
Jharsuguda Bypoll Dipali Das: Biju Janata Dal’s Deepali Das has won a big victory in the by-election on the Jharsuguda assembly seat in Odisha. BJD MLA from Jharsuguda Deepali Das took oath on Monday (May 15) and said, “I have taken oath today and I have promised the chief minister (Naveen Patnaik) that I will always take care of the people of Jharsuguda.”
Dipali Das defeated her Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival Tankhadhar Tripathi by a margin of over 48,000 votes from the Jharsuguda assembly seat. Deepali Das got a total of 1,07,198 votes. BJP’s Tankhadhar Tripathi got around 68 votes.
Deepali Das is in discussions after winning the election because Deepali Das is the daughter of late Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das. Nab Kishore Das was shot dead by his security guard on January 29 earlier this year.
Nab Kishore Das was the MLA from Jharsuguda assembly seat and this seat fell vacant only after his death. That’s why Biju Janata Dal gave ticket to Dipali Das.
The by-election for the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency was held on 10 May 2023, with a voter turnout of 79.21 percent out of 2.21 lakh eligible voters.
Of the nine candidates in the fray, the contest was mainly between three candidates – Deepali Das of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Tarun Pandey of the Congress and Tankhadhar Tripathi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite stiff competition, Deepali Das emerged as the clear winner, gaining a significant lead over her opponents.
After winning the election, Dipali Das had said, “I would like to thank the people of Jharsuguda and our leader Naveen Patnaik for showing faith in me, it is a huge wish of the people of Jharsuguda, party work and leader and supporters who supported me to make this possible, I am determined to fulfill the promises made to the people and the dreams of my late father Naba Das.
