BJP In Eastern States: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that Assam and the North-East region have progressed on the path of peace and development during the eight-year rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shah, after inaugurating the newly created state office of the party in Assam’s capital Guwahati, claimed that the Congress rule of the 1970s had pushed the northeast region towards violence and anarchy since independence.
Northeast states are closer to Modi
Modi’s leadership during the last 8 years has helped to bring this region into the mainstream. He said that during the Congress rule there was neither peace, development nor development of these states and even the culture of the region was damaged. But, between 2014 and 2022, it is our good fortune that the Prime Minister has taken this sector to new heights of development. Modi ji is like a big banyan tree, under whose shade this region is on its way to fulfill the development goals set by him.
ban on violence
The Union minister claimed that he had come here several times as a student activist during the Assam agitation against illegal infiltrators, and was “stricken several times under the instructions of the then Congress chief minister Hiteshwar Saikia”. He said that the BJP government has established peace in Assam by getting 9,000 militants to be armed. Shah, a senior BJP leader, said the Prime Minister has tripled the budget for the Northeast region, which has led to infrastructural development in all areas. Shah said the number of militants in the state was 8,700 during 2006-14, while 500 security personnel were killed in the violence. However, between 2014 and 2022, the number of militants has come down to 250 and 127 security personnel have died due to violence.
AFSPA will be removed soon
He further said that “Rahul Baba (referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi) talks about complete repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which is only rhetorical, but the BJP government has done a similar thing in this area. The atmosphere has been created due to which the Act was repealed from 60 per cent of the area where it was earlier in force.” Shah said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is working to establish lasting peace under the Prime Minister’s guidance and The day is not far when this law will be removed from the entire region.
In 2019, the then BJP President Amit Shah had laid the foundation
Shah said there are several projects for the state and the most important one is the establishment of a forensic science university in the state. The Home Minister said that BJP is also committed to provide employment to one lakh youth in the state. Referring to the new office of the party, Shah said, “BJP offices are not just brick-and-stone buildings, but it reflects the dedication, spirit, commitment and hard work of the party workers.” Shah had laid the foundation stone of the party building in 2019 as the then president of the BJP.
Chief Minister and workers assured
“However, I was skeptical whether this ambitious project would be feasible. Sarma and other workers had assured me that this would happen. Today I feel extremely proud to inaugurate it along with party president JP Nadda.” “I have come here today not as a Union minister but as a worker of the party and I urge everyone to work according to the principles, commitment and sacrifice of the founders of BJP,” he said. Earlier, Shah along with BJP President J. Nadda inaugurated the new headquarters of the party in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, party’s state unit chief Bhavesh Kalita, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and others. Nadda laid the foundation stone of nine district party offices while Shah laid the foundation stone of 102 regional offices through digital medium.
PM’s direct eye on Northeast states
Prime Minister Modi himself has visited the northeastern states 50 times. After independence, there is such a Prime Minister who has visited the states of the Northeast the most times. After the BJP came to power, these states have seen a lot of changes. The same PM Modi has given special attention to the development of the Northeast. In these states, the BJP has given special attention to transport and communication.
got rid of this law
Bamboo cultivation is done on a large scale in the northeastern states of India. At one time the law of cutting bamboo was considered a crime, but the Modi government has abolished this law. Let us tell you that cutting bamboo was considered illegal under the Indian Forest Act. Now the people there do not need to take permission from the forest department to cut bamboo. Due to the old rules, farmers had to face difficulties in cultivating bamboo.
