Narak Chaturdashi is the day after Dhanteras. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi arrives on the day of Narak Chaturdashi and the poverty of the house goes away.     When is Narak Chaturdashi celebrated?

    Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi Tithi of Kartik Krishna Paksha. Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated a day after Dhanteras and before Diwali. This time Narak Chaturdashi is starting from 06.03 pm on 23rd October. On the other hand, Chaturdashi Tithi will end on October 24 at 5:27 pm. In such a situation, Narak Chaturdashi will be celebrated on October 24 according to Udaya Tithi.

    Why is Choti Diwali called Narak Chaturdashi?

    According to Hindu belief, on this day Shri Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, killed the demon Narakasura. More than 16 thousand women were imprisoned in Narakasura’s prison house, who were freed by Lord Krishna. Since then Chhoti Diwali is celebrated as Narak Chaturdashi.

    How to celebrate Choti Diwali?

    The house is cleaned and decorated on the occasion of Choti Diwali. Household junk and spoiled items are thrown out. In the evening, diyas are lit in both the corners of the door of the house. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped.

    Why are diyas lit on Narak Chaturdashi?

    There is also a tradition of lighting a lamp in the evening on this day. According to religious belief, a lamp in the name of Yamraj is lit on the day of Narak Chaturdashi. It is said that the fear of premature death ends by worshiping Yama.
