Amit Shah Visit’s J&K: The visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir has been rescheduled i.e. his visit to Jammu and Kashmir has been changed and he will now visit the Union Territory on October 4 for two days. Shah was supposed to reach here on September 30. A BJP source said that the yatra, which was earlier scheduled for October 1 and 2, has been rescheduled and Shah will now reach here on October 4. Shah is about to address a public meeting in Rajouri district. Party sources said that during his visit to Rajouri, he will make some important announcements regarding development and other related issues.
Will hold a review meeting to review the security situation
He will also address a public meeting in Baramulla district, a source said. During his visit, the Home Minister may announce reservation for the Pahari community as a Scheduled Tribe. Shah will also chair a high-level meeting to review the security situation in the Valley. The Home Minister will be accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and intelligence agencies. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will attend all development and security review meetings to be chaired by Shah. Some BJP leaders said Shah would launch the party’s election campaign during his visit. The last elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014. But in 2019, the then state governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the assembly after the BJP pulled out of the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government.
Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections may be held in April-May 2023
On 5 August 2019, Parliament abrogated Article 370, separating Ladakh as a separate Union Territory and granted the status of a Union Territory to Jammu and Kashmir. Later the Delimitation Commission was formed, which reorganized the assembly constituencies, increasing their number from 87 to 90, with 47 seats in Kashmir and 43 in the Jammu division. The elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly could not be held this year due to different reasons. The Election Commission has announced that the final voter list will be published on November 24.
Considering the time period required for filing nomination papers, scrutiny of nomination papers, period of withdrawal of candidature, duration of election campaign, etc., there is very little chance of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir being held by the end of this year as it is December. By the middle it will be cold. It is believed that the earliest elections may be held in April-May 2023, even if individual party leaders start their election campaigns only in 2022.
