- Mukesh Ambani’s security cover extended
- Intelligence and security agencies had given input
- 40-50 commandos can be involved in security
Mukesh Ambani: The central government has increased the security cover of the country’s leading industrialist Mukesh Ambani to ‘Z Plus’. Z+ is the top category of security. The government has taken this step after reviewing the threat by central intelligence and security agencies. Official sources gave this information on Thursday. Reliance Industries Chairman Ambani (65) was first given ‘Z’ category security cover of CRPF commandos on ‘payment basis’ in 2013. At the same time, his wife Nita Ambani has got ‘Y Plus’ category security, in which the number of commandos is less.
40-50 commandos can be involved in security
According to the latest Bloomberg Index, Ambani is the 10th richest person in the world. Sources said Ambani’s security has been changed to top-class ‘Z+’ and necessary information in this regard will be issued soon. The Union Home Ministry formalized the recommendation after Ambani received inputs from central intelligence and security agencies regarding the threat perception. Sources said the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) may be asked to increase the existing security cover to ‘Z+’ and induct more commandos in their security. Their security may consist of a total of 40-50 commandos who work in shifts.
A car full of explosives was found last year
The CRPF also currently provides security to Ambani’s residence and office premises. Earlier last year, Ambani’s security was beefed up when an SUV car laden with explosives was found near his residence in Mumbai. After this the National Investigation Agency (NIA) started the investigation of the case. Another eminent industrialist and Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani was also provided VIP security cover of ‘Z’ category of CRPF commandos by the central government last month. This facility is also being provided on ‘payment basis’.
A new battalion for VIP security
CRPF Director General (DG) Kuldeep Singh told reporters on Thursday that the force is providing security to 119 people and the Union Home Ministry has given it a new battalion to provide ‘VIP’ security. There are already six battalions for this task and each such unit has about 800 personnel. Key people to whom the CRPF provides security include Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress President Sonia Gandhi and their children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
