Saurav Ganguly Controversy: There were many speculations in the media about the way Sourav Ganguly had to abruptly step down from the post of BCCI President. It was believed that a faction of the board was upset with the way Sourav Ganguly worked. There was also news about Ganguly not getting a second term that he was deliberately thrown out. But BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal has called all these reports baseless. Dhumal said, ‘No one said a word against Sourav Ganguly. All the board members were very happy and satisfied with the work done by him as chairman along with the entire team.

Speaking to PTI, Dhumal said that Ganguly was involved in all the decisions before the filing of nominations. Dhumal said, “In independent India, there has not been a president in the BCCI who has held this position for more than three years. All these are media speculations that Dada was told this or that some members were against him, all this is baseless.

Dhumal said, “Dada was with Roger Binny and everyone who went to file nominations. Everything was discussed and Dada was also talked to. He was offered the post of IPL chairman or else Roger doesn’t get a chance as he is 67 years old (age limit is 70 years).’

He thanked Sourav Ganguly and said that if Ganguly had accepted the post of IPL chairman, he might not have been a part of the new team. Ganguly did not accept the position and now Dhumal will take over as the next IPL chairman.

Let us tell you that the nominations for the official posts for the next term of BCCI have been filled and they will be elected unopposed on October 18. 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny will replace Ganguly as the president, while Jay Shah will continue as the secretary. Rajeev Shukla will get another term on the post of vice-president. Ashish Shelar will be the new treasurer and Devajit Saikia will be the new joint secretary.
