BCCI Meeting: Former India cricketer Roger Binny will take over as the chairman of the board in place of former captain Sourav Ganguly at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday. On the other hand, Jai Shah (Secretary), Ashish Shelar (Treasurer), Rajeev Shukla (Vice President) and Devjit Saikia (Joint Secretary) will also be elected unopposed to their posts. Apart from these, outgoing treasurer Arun Dhumal will be the new chairman of IPL. As per the agenda of the AGM, two representatives of the Cricketers’ Association of India, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy, will be included in the BCCI Apex Council.
Discussion on ICC chairman?
In this meeting, the issue can be discussed whether BCCI should field a candidate for the post of ICC chairman or not. There is a lot of discussion in the political corridors about Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directly sought PM Modi’s intervention in favor of Sourav Ganguly. But other names being discussed for the post include Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and former BCCI President N Srinivasan.
The last date for nominations for the top ICC post is October 20. At present, the BCCI is in favor of supporting the current chairman Greg Barkley for a second term. But if Sourav Ganguly or someone else is considered for this top post, it will be interesting to see. Let us tell you that the ICC Board will meet in Melbourne from November 11 to 13.
IPL will be discussed
Arun Dhumal will chair the meeting of the newly constituted IPL Governing Council after the BCCI AGM on Tuesday. In this, the date of IPL auction will be decided and there will also be a discussion about the first women’s IPL, which the board wants to organize in March before the IPL.
