Written and directed by Kajri Babbar, the film will tell the story of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, granddaughter of the great Maharaja Ranjit Singh and granddaughter of Queen Victoria. I really hope to do justice to his incredible story.
While Sophia’s story is rooted in history, the other story is a fictionalized account of Mehak Kaur, an educated, married immigrant woman living in 1990s Southall. Mehak unfolds a fascinating tale of women’s liberation and empathy in contemporary times. The two stories take place in different eras, highlighting grit, determination and compassion.
Aditi Rao Hydari will play the role of Mehak Kaur in the film. She said, I was immediately drawn to the story, which brought to the screen the life and legacy of an extraordinary woman; A story lost in history. While Princess Sofia is a heroine in the truest sense, Mehak is an equally strong character whose journey parallels that of Lioness in the present.
