Citing China’s rapidly deteriorating internal security and increasing uncertainty in it, President Xi Jinping has announced preparations for war. Jinping said, Beijing will comprehensively strengthen its military training and preparedness for any war to ensure the country’s security.
During a command center inspection on Tuesday, Jinping called for increased loyalty and combat readiness among soldiers, according to state-run media CCTV. The goal of China’s military command structure should be loyal, adept at fighting, skilled in command and capable of winning, he said. Jinping also called on the military leadership to enhance military training and war preparedness and effectively fulfill their missions and tasks in the new era.
Xi visited the Joint Operations Command Center of the Central Military Commission for the first time after being re-elected as China’s commander-in-chief last month. Xi reaffirmed his ambitions to have the Chinese armed forces with “world-class” standards by 2049 at a party congress last month. Beijing has to become more efficient in deploying military forces on a regular basis and in a variety of ways, he said.
The PLA has to be both firm and flexible in carrying out its operations. Only then will we be able to strengthen internal security, be able to prevent crises and conflicts and win local wars. According to the news agency Xinhua, during the command center inspection, Jinping reiterated that the great changes unseen in the century are happening at an accelerated rate. China has to be prepared for both opportunities and risks.
