New Delhi: Former England first-class cricketer Jonathan Beatty was on Saturday named the head coach of Delhi Capitals in the inaugural Women’s Premier League. Beatty, 48, will be joined by former cricketers Hemlata Kala and Lisa Knightley. Beatty Oval, a former Surrey and Gloucestershire wicket-keeper-batsman, has been the coach of the Invincibles women’s team which won The Hundred titles in 2021 and 2022. He has also coached the Melbourne Stars and the Surrey women’s team in the Women’s Big Bash League.

He said in a statement issued by the team, “I am very excited to join Delhi Capitals as head coach. It’s a great time to be involved with women’s cricket and the Women’s Premier League can change the face of the professional women’s game around the world.” Kala, who has played seven Tests and 78 ODIs for India, has also been the head of the national selection committee.

It was during his tenure that India reached the final of the 2017 World Cup. Knightley, who played nine Tests and 82 ODIs for Australia, has been the coach of the England women’s team. She has also been the head coach of Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunders. Biju George, who is also associated with the Delhi Capitals men’s team, will be the fielding coach of the team.
