The appointments of Hope and Powell were announced on Wednesday after Nicholas Pooran stepped down as captain of both the teams following their early exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Hope and Powell’s first series as captains will be next month when the West Indies team will play three ODIs and three T20Is in South Africa. Wicket-keeper batsman Hope has played over 100 ODIs for the West Indies. He has also previously held the responsibility of vice captain.

All-rounder Powell is a limited overs specialist and has played 55 T20 Internationals. He was the vice-captain of the T20 team. West Indies will co-host the T20 World Cup with the US next year. (agency)
