After the murder of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri in Punjab, now the case of Mahant’s murder has come to the fore. Mahant Sheetal Das (70), who lived in a hut for four decades, was murdered by unknown people in Budhanpur village of Mohali district. Mahant has been attacked with sharp-edged weapons. The women of the village saw the blood-soaked body of the Mahant at 10 am on Thursday. After this the police was informed. It is suspected that the members of the buffalo thief gang operating in the area have carried out the incident.
Mahant Sheetal Das was originally from a village in Fatehgarh Sahib district. For the past 42 years, he lived in a hut near the mausoleum of Mahant Sawan Das behind the government primary school in village Budhanpur. From the DSP to all the big police officers reached the spot. Inspector Karamjit Singh said that the investigation is going on in the matter. Soon the accused will be behind the bars.
People of the area told that Mahant Sheetal Das had about three bighas of land but he used to fill his stomach by begging from the village. Residents of the village said that the women saw the blood-soaked body of the Mahant around 10 am. After this, the sensation spread in the village and the villagers gathered there.
People informed the police of Banur police station. Villagers said that a gang of buffalo thieves was roaming in the village on Wednesday night. When he started to open the buffalo of a farmer, the people of the nearby house woke up after hearing the noise and they made a noise. After the incident, the accused fled by climbing the wall of the courtyard. The villagers suspect that Mahant Sheetal Das was murdered by a buffalo theft gang. Police station chief Banur Karamjit Singh reached the spot along with Rajpura DSP Surinder Mohan. The police have started a murder investigation by taking the body into custody.

BSP state secretary Jagjit Singh Chadbar, who reached the spot, said that law and order has completely collapsed since the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state. Murders are taking place in the state every day, but the government led by Bhagwant Mann is busy campaigning in the assembly elections in Himachal and Gujarat. He said that incidents of theft are happening in Banur area every day, which proves the inaction of the police administration.
