Digital Desk, Mumbai. Bollywood star Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming film Bawal will be released directly on OTT. Set against the backdrop of World War 2, the film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari of Dangal fame.
A source close to the development said that the film is a bit out of the box and doesn’t quite fall into the category of commercial masala entertainer. The makers chose OTT to release the film.
The film will now release on Prime Video in October and an official announcement will be made soon. A source told Bollywood Hungama, Sajid Nadiadwala (producer) had a discussion with his actors, Varun and Janhvi, and took the decision only after everyone agreed. The entire team believes that Baawaal will win the hearts of the audience on OTT.
The source further said, the film is a poem in motion and the digital medium is expected to reach out to a wider audience base, which may not be possible with a theatrical release. The idea is to go global organically and Amazon is the perfect partner for that reach.
