Search and rescue operations were resumed on Thursday to rescue the people of Nehru Mountaineering Institute trapped in an avalanche near Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak in Uttarkashi. According to the information, 9 bodies have been recovered so far, while 14 people have been rescued. 29 are still reported to be stranded. ITBP said that relief and rescue work has been started on Thursday as well.
Helicopter landing ground built at 16 thousand feet
More teams have been sent from ITBP Nauli, Uttarkashi to Advance Base Camp. A team from High Altitude Warfare School has also joined the search and rescue operation. According to ITBP, an advanced helicopter landing ground has been prepared at 16000 feet and a trial landing has been successful this morning.
Many people are still missing, problem due to bad weather
According to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, 9 bodies have been recovered so far, while 29 people are still trapped. Many of these are said to be missing. Due to bad weather, the agencies are facing difficulties in the rescue work.
Children went for mountaineering on October 4
It is worth mentioning that the children of Basic and Advanced Course running near Bhukki of Nehru Mountaineering Institute, NIM Uttarkashi had reached Draupadi’s Danda on 4th October for mountaineering training. Where a sudden avalanche came, the whole accident has come to the fore.
All climbers from Uttarkashi were taking mountaineering training
All the climbers belong to Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. All of them were taking mountaineering training. According to the latest information, 10 out of 29 climbers have died. Relief and rescue work is underway to bring the survivors out safely.
