During the Corona period, the two trains running on Bhagalpur railway section have not been started yet. Traders are facing problems due to non-operation of Sealdah Varanasi Express running in the name of Upper India.
Whereas, due to non-operation of Saharsa-Bhagalpur special passenger, the people of the area face problem in coming to Bhagalpur. It is being said that the Sealdah Varanasi Express has been closed by the Railway Board due to technical reasons.
Whereas Saharsa-Bhagalpur special passenger is not being started due to low income. Birender Kumar, CPRO of East Central Railway said that the passenger train going from Saharsa to Bhagalpur via Munger was run on TOD i.e. train on demand. But the income from its operations was low, so it was closed.
The matter has been raised in the meeting with the Railways
Eastern Bihar Chamber of Commerce President Shravan Bajoria said that traders are suffering a lot due to the closure of Upper India. This made it easy to order goods from Banaras. A demand has also been placed in front of the GM of the Railways to start it. Weaver representative Ziaur Rahman told that traders from Banaras come for Bhagalpur silk. They get convenience in coming to Upper India.
ZURC member Mrinal Shekhar said that in the last meeting, the demand for starting Upper India was placed in front of the DRM and GM. The DRM had also assured to talk to the Railway Ministry. But till now nothing has happened. Eastern Railway CPRO Eklavya Chakraborty said that only the Railway Board can take a decision on starting this train.
Saharsa special train will run if there is demand
The operation of the Saharsa-Bhagalpur special was less profitable, hence it was discontinued. If there is demand again, it will be run.
