Tradition of cow-pig wrestling on Gobardhan worship in Buxar: reward given to the cow shepherd who hits the pig more

On the second day of Diwali in Buxar, members of the cowherd family and cattle ranchers celebrated the cow dart festival in a traditional way. The centuries-old tradition of ‘cow-pig wrestling’ was also carried out with gusto and enthusiasm. The cattle-keepers were trying to get the pig to die with their buffaloes tying a rope to the feet of the cow. In the fight between the cow and the pig, the symbol of goodness and the pig, symbolizing evil, was considered defeated due to repeated running away.

The pastoralists started reaching the place of worship with their cattle in the afternoon. Where the work of worship and rituals was completed in the complete traditional way. For this, cows, buffaloes and other cattle were bathed and vaccinated with ghee vermilion. More faith and enthusiasm was seen in a particular caste regarding this worship.
