Voting for the first phase for the urban municipal elections will start from 7 am today. All its preparations have been completed. In the first phase, voting is being held for 156 municipalities.
In this 52 lakh 60 thousand voters will decide the fate of 21287 candidates. According to the State Election Commission, voting will be held from 7 am to 5 pm. Voting will be held only in Imamganj of Gaya till 3 pm in view of security reasons.
Voting is to be held in 68 Nagar Parishads and 88 Nagar Panchayats in the first phase. There are 17647 candidates in the fray for 3346 posts of Ward Councillors. On the other hand, 1943 candidates are trying their luck for 156 posts of Chief Councilor and 1697 candidates for 156 posts of Deputy Chief Councilor. The counting of votes for the first phase will take place on December 20.
Digital records will be kept this time to stop fake voters
To prevent fake voters, this time digital records of voters will also be kept, for this the help of Face Recognition System (FRC) app will be taken. With this, a digital record will be kept at each booth along with the photo of the voters, so that the polling personnel can get complete information by entering the EPIC number.
In this regard, training has also been given to the polling staff in Patna. Complete details of the voters will be available on the mobile app of the polling personnel. The digital record will have the details of voter’s name, father’s name, address, EPIC number etc.
Polling station declared tobacco free, fine of Rs 200 if caught
The State Election Commission has declared all booths and counting centers as tobacco-free zones. Instructions have been issued to all the DMs that there is also a proposal to declare all government offices and all educational institutions tobacco-free in the meeting of the State Tobacco Coordination Committee, headed by the Principal Secretary of the Health Department. If caught, there is a provision of a fine of Rs 200 or six months in jail or both.
