Mount Maunganui: Suryakumar Yadav became the second Indian player to score two centuries in a calendar year, continuing his impressive run in the shortest international format of the game. Captain Rohit Sharma (four) became the first Indian batsman in 2018 to score two T20 International centuries in a calendar year. With his unbeaten 111 against New Zealand on Sunday, Suryakumar joined the list of Indian batsmen who have scored two or more hundreds at the international level.
Rohit and opener Lokesh Rahul (two) are included in this list before Suryakumar. Suryakumar scored his first century in this format against England in July this year. After India’s innings on Sunday, Suryakumar told the broadcasters, “A century is always special in T20 cricket. I am enjoying batting like this, I do the same in net sessions during practice. I am very pleased with it.”

Suryakumar reached the three-figure mark in the 19th over by hitting consecutive fours off Lockie Ferguson. Suryakumar has been in scintillating form since making his debut in the T20 format in March last year. He has scored over 1300 runs in 41 matches at an average of 45.00. His strike rate of 181.64 during this period is the highest by any batsman in the T20 format.
He has cemented his place in the Indian middle-order and has been in his best form since last one year. Suryakumar Yadav is known as ‘Mr 360’ because of his ability to play shots in every area of the ground. He has scored 1151 runs in T20 format this year (2022).
