    Supreme Court CJI: Before retiring in November 2022, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court UU Lalit appointed Justice D.Y. Recommended the name of Chandrachud. Justice UU Lalit took over as the country’s Chief Justice on August 27. Now he will retire on 8 November 2022 after his 74-day tenure.

    Let us tell you that on 7 October itself, the Central Government had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit, asking him to nominate his successor. After which this morning he called a meeting of all the judges of the Supreme Court, after which Justice D.Y. A letter in the name of Chandrachud has been sent to the Central Government.

    Justice DY Chandrachud’s tenure will be for 2 years

    Justice DY Chandrachud’s tenure as CJI will be for two years. He will retire on 10 November 2024. For information, let us tell you that the judges of the Supreme Court retire at the age of 65 and the judges of the High Court at the age of 62 years.

    Justice Chandrachud’s father was the 16th CJI

    Justice Chandrachud’s father Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud was the 16th CJI of the country. His tenure lasted from February 22, 1978 to July 11, 1985 i.e. for about 7 years. He will sit in the same post 37 years after his father’s retirement. Justice Chandrachud has also overturned two major decisions of his father in the SC. He is known for his impeccable decisions. Justice DY Chandrachud will have a tenure of 2 years from November 9, 2022 to November 10, 2024.
