    In Sitamarhi district, preparations for Chhath, the great festival of folk faith, are on a pair. We are telling the story of Punora Dham, the birthplace of Sita Mata. Where thousands of years ago, on the banks of an ancient pond, there is an ashram of Pundarik Rishi associated with the Ramayana period. Where Pundarik Rishi used to work hard by building a hut. Where today a temple has been built. It is said that Sage Pundarik used to worship Lord Surya by making a Surya Peeth in the east direction of the ancient pond. Since then the Lord Surya of that place is worshipped. And after Yugantar, in 1986, with the help of the people, the temple was built by installing the statue of Lord Surya riding on horses.

    On the occasion of Chhath festival, people from far and wide come here to have darshan of Lord Sun. The temple is being decorated for Chhath festival. Pending is going on outside the temple. Here the Sun Temple is established in the east of the pond. There is a Shiva temple in the west and a temple of Maa Kali in the south. Local people told that according to mythology, there is a tradition of worshiping the sun after taking a bath here. Every year on the place of Sun temple, worship is done in a grand manner on Chhath.

    After taking a bath in the ancient pond, the wish is fulfilled by having darshan.

    Its priest Umeshanand Ji Maharaj tells that by taking a bath in this pond, every wish of those who worship the Sun God is fulfilled. It is told that there used to be an ashram of Pundarik Rishi in this area. Where sages used to take bath in this pond and used to offer water to Lord Surya in the morning. Sage Pundarik had established the body of the Sun God here. There is an ancient pond here. By bathing in it and offering arghya to Lord Surya, his every wish is fulfilled. There is a different radiance here regarding the four-day long festival of folk faith.
